How to Reach
By Air:
The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, which is well-connected to major Indian cities. From the airport, taxis and buses are available to the Char Dham route. Helicopter services are also available for Kedarnath and selected Char Dham packages.
By Train:
The nearest railway stations are Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun, offering good connectivity with Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and other major cities. From these stations, buses and taxis operate to the Char Dham destinations.
By Road:
Char Dham is well-connected by road from Delhi Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun. State transport buses, private coaches, shared jeeps, and taxis are readily available. Kedarnath requires a 16–18 km trek from Gaurikund, while Yamunotri involves a 5–6 km trek from Janki Chatti. Gangotri and Badrinath are directly accessible by road.
Best Time to Visit – Char Dham
- May to June: Pleasant weather, ideal for pilgrimage and sightseeing.
- September to October: Clear skies and comfortable temperatures make it the best post-monsoon season for the yatra.
- July to August (Monsoon): Travel is not recommended due to heavy rainfall and the risk of landslides.
- November to April: The temples remain closed because of heavy snowfall.
